Shirley Atkinson

Hello. I am Shirley Atkinson, Lecturer at Plymouth University and e-safety researcher.

Shirley Atkinson's research currently explores a number areas. One is the early years settings - looking at how technology is being assimilated by our under fives in the Plymouth area and working with the Plymouth Safeguarding Children's Board to ensure policy is informed by research. The second area is exploring how children, especially primary aged children are constructing their passwords. The third area is a collaborative piece of work with Kingston University exploring how our trainee teachers engage with the e-safety resources.Previous research carried out by Shirley Atkinson has included working with South West Grid for Learning to create resources for a peer support training package. A Becta supported initiative to evaluate the use of peer-led e-safety initiatives in schools, helping support teenagers in creating their own resources to encourage other young people to be safe online. Shirley Atkinson participates in Plymouth Safeguarding Children Board E-Safety sub-group.  She has been a previous contributor to South West Grid for Learning and Insafe.
